NONNY DE LA PEŅA Director / Writer / Co-Producer It was the reporter in Nonny de la Peņa that first attracted her to the story of Stephen Matthews as the subject for her recently completed documentary THE JAUNDICED EYE. With an auspicious beginning spent writing about Latino gang members, followed quickly by an internship at CNN, Nonny's career as a journalist has always been diverse and intense. After a stint as a correspondent in Mexico through the Fund for Investigative Journalism, Nonny went on to become a stringer for Time Magazine before joining Newsweek Magazine as a correspondent. Deciding to pursue documentary film, Nonny's in-depth investigation into worker safety in America immediately led to a position as Associate Producer for HBO. Her first film, "Death on the Job" was nominated for an Academy Award. Since then, Nonny has led a complicated and diverse professional life which, besides documentary film, has included creating two pilots for CBS, staff work on television dramas and freelance articles for Premiere Magazine, The Los Angeles Times and Buzz Magazine. She also co-produced a Movie of the Week for USA Network about the Unabomber. Presently a Producer/Director/Writer with her own production company, Pyedog Productions, she continues her tradition of investigative journalism for the BBC's Omnibus & Inside Story, A&E's Investigative Reports, HBO's America Undercover and The Discovery Channel, among others. THE JAUNDICED EYE is no exception to her litany of hard-hitting films.
