THE JAUNDICED EYE
opens April 7 at The Music Hall!

Producers Dan Gifford and Amy Sommer (Waco: The Rules of Engagement) bring us the riveting documentary The Jaundiced Eye. It chronicles the traumas incurred by a gay Michigan man, Stephen Matthews, and his straight father, Melvin Matthews, who were wrongly accused by Stephen's ex-girlfriend and her husband of molesting Stephen's son. Both Stephen and Melvin were sentenced to 35 years, until evidence surfaced that the scientific tests used to sway the jury had provided false results.

The Jaundiced Eye is the second documentary from producers Dan Gifford and Amy Sommer. Their first documentary -- the Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning Waco: The Rules of Engagement, which challenged the FBI's version of the 1993 Waco tragedy -- was back in the news this past year, because of the US Attorney General's announcement to reinvestigate the FBI's involvement in the Waco event.

Like Waco: The Rules of Engagement, The Jaundiced Eye suggests that our prejudices can sometimes cause us to ignore the evidence before us.

The film is directed by investigative journalist Nonny de la Peņa. (A&E's Investigative Reports), with music by Toronto composer Michael Brooke (Heat, Affliction).

Since the film's completion, the boy has signed an affidavit, stating that he was not abused by his father. He and his father are now working on a relationship. Further, his mother has separated from his stepfather.

The Jaundiced Eye will play April 7 to 11 at The Music Hall, then April 12 and 13 at Paradise Cinema. The film is being released in Canada by Creative Exposure.
